I feel like all my projects completed before this helped me sew this properly without crying over it. initially thought I’d need a microtex needle, but things worked fine with my regular universal needle. I also didn’t interface the stretch denim based on Claude’s reco not to, and I’m happy with the result.

instructions

  • all of them were great except for illustration listed below. I particularly like the part that illustrates all the possible options of the bag.
  • there was an illustration in the instructions that I was quite confused by, where you’re supposed to only sew the sides of the bottom of the lining and not the middle. I read the illustration as only sewing the middle and not the sides, I think it might be having the light green notches and the thin stitch lines in the same diagram, I assumed that you’ll sew from left most notch to right most avoiding the sides. screenshot of the confusing step in instructions
  • the instructions for attaching the tulip like drawstring ends were quite brief, so I ended up watching the YouTube video portion for it.

finished product!

Took me a day to sew this. I’m a slow sewer and enjoy taking my time and this was overall enjoyable! I will be sewing this project again.

learned

  1. The fabric piece that needs to be eased should always be against the feed dogs. In this project, the curve needed to be distributed to the gusset, with the circle taking priority.
  2. I prefer to quarter / split my own notches equally across the fabric. Sometimes when I’m cutting I can accidentally move the fabric from the projector and accidentally be a few cm off a notch. It’s not a big deal that it’s slightly off centre for now, but in the future I will just add the notches myself.

next make notes

  • loosely baste the bottom of the lining bag instead of only sewing the sides
  • Follow the instructions on which side should go on the feed dogs (it makes it easier to sew)
  • it’s fine to equally quarter/ split my own notches on the circle and the gusset.
  • for the materials, these are not strict widths: webbing, cord, elastic.
